Even as Mitsubishi is undergoing a major rescue plan at home, engineers in the States have been busy testing the next Eclipse.

Code name PS24S, the 2006 Eclipse is shown here looking considerably larger than the current model, and with styling cues taken from the Eclipse-E Concept which was first shown at the NAIAS this past January.

Based on the Galant platform, the next Eclipse will arrive in time for the 2006 model year. The Galant, the Eclipse, and the Endeavor crossover ute are based on Mitsu's "Project America" platform; the Galant and Endeavor are built at the Mitsubishi facility in Normal, Illinois , where the Eclipse will be assembled as well.

DC decided not to invest any further into Mitsubishi Motors, they don't own enough of Mitsubishi Motors to pull the plug. Mitsubishi Group however infused some money into Mitsubishi Motors, in hopes of rescuring it.

Remember that Mitsubishi has $9 billion in debt.

To add to what HZM said when DaimlerChrysler turned their back on them, Mitsubishi managed to raise more than $4 billion from investors led by Mitsubishi Group and a company called Phoenix Capital. Phoenix is backed by J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. So you could say they are financially stable. The bailout gives Phoenix a 40-percent stake in Mitsubishi, while DaimlerChrysler's stake will fall to about 23 percent from 37 percent. Also DC gave up two of its four seats on the Mitsubishi board.

Its pretty funny how DC always described Mitsubishi as the cornerstone of their strategy to expand into Asian markets and all of a sudden they pulled the plug on them.

I think the split windows for the driver and passenger are interesting. I can't remember the last time I saw a Japanese car with that configuration.

Although we can't tell for sure what the car is going to look like once the masks are removed, I already like the overall shape of it. It's longer and wider then the car it replaces and more aggressive styled.
It may be a winner. blush.gif
