Rumors and more rumors is all we can ever get out of Honda. Pictures, sure there are spy shots and we have em here. Supposedly running close to 300HP under the hood with a 3.8L V6 the RL might be pulled by FWD or if we keep our fingers AWD (btw, RWD is denied by honda along with the v8 but u never know). Never really a contender against the likes of the Lexus, Audi, BMW, Benz, what the RL offers is value. For its price, you cant beat it. Heres what the 2004RL could look like.

Oh yeah, did i mention the NIGHT VISION!!!! yes, on the windshield of the RL, you will be able to turn on a LED display that will in a way, light up the windshield so you can see better. (similar to night vision goggles). How it will look is a different matter altogether

I'm sorry to say, but the grey-greenish car pic is photochopped. It's been posted on other TL forums and it's a fake.

In my opinion I think they should have more than 300 horses 'cause that luxury car segment of the market is going crazy right now. I read in Motor Trend that the new Cadillac Seville is supposed to be running some where around 400 to 450 horses. Thats crazy. I think that if the RL wants to be a prime competitor they gotta up on the horses. Also all-wheel drive would be awesome but the price might go up.

Well, frankly, i am not pleased with the car company acura has become. I just recently traded in my 1995 Acura Legend GS, which i bought new, and traded in with 184,832 miles. That was a car. No problems ever. with 230 horsepower and the type II engine the car was awsome. But i just traded "UP" to a new 2003 TL type S, which i prefered over the the RL for obvious reasons. But the tl is not as much of a car as the legend was, though i do recognize the price difference, the over all quality to me is not what i expected. My glove box rattles, head liner rattles, tire's chirp everywhere. What happened to the leather lined healiner, and how about the courtesy lights?? Maybe this may seem pety, but the dome light in the center on the headliner is cheap, as are the reading lights. It is the finishing touches that acura needs to bring back to make the cars more desirable. If it doesn't the new G35's, IS300's, C240's, ets, are going to be flourishing on the roads, and quite honestly, i dont care to see any of them. I think that it is time for acura to regroup, and build a GOOD LOOKING RL, and as much as i like the tl's styling it is rime to redesign it as well. Both cars need to be restored to acura's original quality standards. Furthermore, in order to compete, the tl needs a 6 speed, possibly more aggresive tires, rear wheel or all wheel drive, carbon fiber interior touches???, a factory upgrade underbody package that doesn't overlap on the front and rear bumpers, but rather be a totally different bumper all together. I dont know about you, but 3,000 dollar upgrade for all of this i would be willinf to pay, especially after paying $1000 for a oem underrbody package which clips onto, and is not flush to, my bumpers. dunno.gif

Well the thing with the acuras is that i actually like most of the materials that they use for the car. If a person doesnt like the dome lights, they can easily be changed out with brighter lights. Styling is something that can be debatable since some like the look of the RL and TL while others think of it as bland. Things to keep in mind is that the TL isnt a SPORT car... its a luxury car, and for its purpose, the touring tires do a pretty decent job of keeping the ride comfortable, there is no need for a 6speed since most of the people buying are looking for auto (if a person desires the 6spd so much, the CL handles that). Im not too sure about the bodykits offered for the car since i have no plans on buying that OEM kits. You do bring up a good point that acura was becoming a little lazy. but they will be introducing the TSX to please more driving enthusiasts along with redesigning the TL and the RL (with what options, we have no idea) but we will find out what direction the company is headed in with the release of the new and redesigned cars

FOUND THIS INFORMATION ON THE HONDA SITE... POSSIBLE APPLICATIONS TO THE RL BUT DEFINITE FOR THE NIGHT VISION.

This vehicle's technology was developed from the standpoint of protecting pedestrians in a traffic accident, by helping to predict and prevent accidents. This is made possible by improving visibility at crossings and providing drivers with necessary information so that pedestrians can easily be identified at crossings at night. In addition, the motorcycle and automobile information communication system, which contributes to the prevention of accidents involving both automobiles and motorcycles, is adopted.

Technologies applied
1. Motorcycle and automobile information communication system
This system enables the exchange of information between automobiles and motorcycles through a wireless communication system, with regard to the vehicle type, speed, direction, position, and other information, and notifies the driver via a windshield display, warning or verbal message, thus preventing the driver from misjudging the situation.
2. Honda night vision system
This system detects pedestrians who cannot otherwise be easily identified at night, and provides the driver with an infrared processed image on the lower windshield as well as a warning.
3. Active headlights
When a vehicle enters a curve or intersection, the system illuminates a wide area ahead of the vehicle. The headlights will automatically illuminate the appropriate area by changing the reflection angle of its reflectors respective to the direction that the vehicle is traveling, thereby improving visibility.

well the active headlights and the night vision are more possible to be present on the new RL than the communication between the auto - motorbike communication setup. that wud take time to get going and even then, wudnt be too helpful if only a few bikes have it

i like the RL... big, luxurious, after all is said, it is definitely worth the money. for me, its not my style since i wanted something sleeker but if i wanted luxury and plenty of room, this car wud have been perfect. i recommend it to many pple but some just dont like it that much while i love it... i guess to each his own

Pretty cool features

<sarcasm>Yeah it kicked ass when Cadillac came out with 3 model years ago...</sarcasm> what's up with the lack of innovation?

All they seem to be doing is waiting for Cadillac to work the kinks out of new technology, then implementing it... maybe that's a smart business decision, maybe it shows a lack of willingness to roll out new features that their customers want...

night vision... onstar... do they have ultrasonic parking yet? how about XM radio built in? or are those next year?

I do have to applaud the DVD navigation and how they've made it a very bright and visible part of their option/model line up... chrysler/lincoln still have yet to offer them (hello, town car = #1 luxury livery sedan, yet has no GPS option yet?!)... even companies like BMW and Mercedes don't seem to push it in the same way that Acura does... I really feel like that is going to be the next killer-app in cars...

WORK AT A ACURA DEALERSHIP AND I WAS READING OUR NEWSLETTER THATS SAYS THAT THE 2004 RL WILL GET RENAMED AND GUESS WHAT IT IS......"LEGEND" THANK GOD THERE IS AN ACURA NAME THAT IS NOT JUST LETTERS. THEY ARE BRINGING BACK THE LEGEND. THE CAR WILL HAVE THE RL BADGE ON THE DECK IN SMALL LETTERS. JUST LIKE THE WAY NISSAN SWITCH THE STANZA TO THE ALTIMA. IT WAS CALLED THE STANZA ALTIMA. IT WILL BE CALLED LEGEND RL. THEY DID THAT HOPEFULLY TO BRING BACK FORMER LEGEND OWNERS TO BUY NEWER ACURAS DUE TO SALE SLUMP IN RL.

thats what i ran across at some forum... personally i dont see why they wud do that since everyone of their cars right now has an alphanumerical name (though no numbers in the acuras thus far).

RSX
TSX
TL
CL
RL
MDX
NSX

yeah... i dont know how believable the LEGEND RL is
